Opening Opening Music and Intro
Welcome all to the VSL podcast Where has the Podcast been? I explain that I've been away on a teaching course which has left no time for the Podcast Apple Releases 8 Core Mac Pro Is it any use though? .. Mac OS X.5 Leopard is designed to handle the 8 Core systems. Whereas X.4 isn't really up to the challenge. OS X.5 release date changed to October .. will we see the new version of Logic? The new version of Logic (not called Logic) is supposed to be a Pro Tools killer and has been 5 years in the making. So, with the new OS due soon will we also see a new audio sequencer .. and if so will it be any better for orchestral production ... how long must we wait .. how long is a piece of string? Are audio sequencers really designed for orchestral work I discuss how our sequencers are sometimes a pain in the ass for doing the kind of orchestral work that we do because they really lack a lot of the built in presets that the Pop and Rock musicians seem to get "On Tap". Reverb Topic - Two new pieces by Hetoreyn Altiverb mixing and Space Designer mixing - Problems and portents. Trying to position instruments (pan) using Altiverbs Speaker placement hasn't really worked for me so I went back to using a mixture of the Dir Mix Plug and the Logic Balance control. Play Piece - "The Gathering" by Hetoreyn This piece uses 4 instances of AV Reverb for the depth and an overall Space Designer Reverb to give me more tail. Also I decided to push the strings backwards in this piece to make them sound more natural. Play Piece - "Fanfare of the Wolfriders" by Hetoreyn This piece uses 4 instances of Space Designer Reverb with an overall AV reverb. Same idea in this piece as with the last to move the strings back. Also tried to narrow down the stereo width to within 45 degrees of the speaker listening angle. This makes things seem more central and thus more like it was recorded in a real hall. MIR - The answer to all our mixing preyers .. quite possibly. Lets hope computer technology sorts it self out soon and gives us something that can run MIR. Go Apple .. Go!
